Getting on the winners podium at the highly competitive Smiths Craft Beer NZ IPA Challenge is no easy task, but with this beautiful brew we did just that.

Dive in to the world of fermented teas with our new Wild Strawberry Kombucha! We’ve used a Wild Strawberry infused Sri Lankan black tea, fermented it with a beautiful Scoby which was propagated from a small batch of Gus’s home brewed booch, its smooth and refreshing and oh so strawberry!

The second of our Kombucha releases, this Apricot Kombucha is fresh and summery with no holding back on the apricots! We’ve used a Sri Lankan black tea which includes pieces of dried papaya, dried apricot, blackberry and lime leaves, calendula petals and sunflower petals.

For our Ginger + Turmeric kombucha we use a combination of a loose-leaf black tea, and a herbal blend which contains dried ginger & turmeric roots, and calendula leaves. The turmeric provides a lovely spice and earthiness, as well as a beautiful golden appearance.

For our Hoppy kombucha, we brew a simple kombucha and then pinch some hops from the stockpile; letting the kombucha rest cold on the hops provides a lovely fruity flavor and aroma, with less of the bitterness.

A a hybrid of two beautiful beer styles, we’ve brewed an IPA and fermented with a German Wheat yeast to create this light coloured, hazy beer with super white heady foam! There’s a whole heap of whole mandarins giving the aroma and flavour of citrus, stone fruit and a warming ester bite driven by the yeast.

This is our first release of a barrel aged beer and we are stoked that it won a Gold medal at the 2019 Brewers Guild awards. Ralph has been very protective of this beer as he loved it so much that he planned to drink a bottle a day until it was all gone and he would then be happy to shuffle off this planet! Later he changed that plan to a bottle a week when he realised that the maths on a bottle a day was just a little too soon!

The beer is a blend of our IPA aged in a single-use ex Pinot Noir wine barrel. The resulting soured beer was blended with apricot fruit ale to balance rich notes of oak, berries and fruit with a little Brett-driven sour.

It was time that made this beer so beautiful, so we suggest you take your time drinking it. Try it in the evening after pouring into a big, red-wine glass. Allow it to warm up and sip it slowly to enjoy the full flavour of this very special treat from Three Boys.
