it’s the little things:
In the words of Trinity Roots, “it’s the little things that really matter.”
We can define ‘the little things’ that really matter to us at Three Boys into two categories: Planet and People.
- We banned the sale of single use plastic riggers at our brewery fillery in 2017. We provide a range of glass and stainless-steel reusable riggers for our customers and encourage customers to bring containers they already have at home.
- All of our product is packaged in recyclable or reusable material - glass, aluminium or stainless-steel kegs, and we use as minimal packaging as possible.
- We work closely with customers to make the supply kegged beer a workable solution to avoid the need for unnecessary packaging and waste - the ultimate container return scheme!
- We repurpose as much as possible for the brewery and fillery - turning pallets into signage boards, printing tap menus on the back of old advertising posters.
We are a Living Wage Accredited Employer. Providing career pathways and flexible work hours to fit around family and other things our staff care about are initiatives we have in place to make this a great place for our staff to be.
We incentivise staff to reduce their carbon footprints - encouraging sustainable transport options, and lunch time is a great sight at the brewery - our team consistently bring leftovers in reusable containers, reducing food waste and single use packaging.
- One of our biggest waste products is used malt and this is used as compost and animal fodder for local producers.
- We treat our effluent to ensure it doesn’t damage the environment.
- 100% of energy use at the brewery is from electricity.
Our focus is to support the local arts community. As a family-owned business, we do this because it’s what we care about, what we enjoy, what makes the world a more enjoyable place to be, and we know that support is circular. We are major sponsors to:
- Christchurch Symphony Orchestra
- Christchurch Art Gallery Te o Waiwhetu
- The Physics Room
- Centre of Contemporary Art Toi Moroki
- RDU 98.5FM
- University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts Te Kura Kōwaiwai
- City Art Depot
- We have a philosophy of treading lightly. We make a very conscious effort to maintain our supply chain as local as possible - right from the primary ingredients of beer to packaging supplies and engineering, working with suppliers that are based as close to us as possible - we carefully consider the social side of our procurement. 98% of our production ingredients are sourced from the South Island.
- We don’t export. We do freight beer to the North Island but our real focus is to supply locally in Christchurch and around Canterbury.
As part of our social responsibility, we choose not to support schools or child-focussed organisations with our alcoholic products.
Within our immediate community we sponsor our local Heathcote Cricket Club – of which all three boys of the Bungard-Casey family are active members.
